Music for dance – what to listen for (1hr)

            - Beyond the obvious, Bahija takes the student deeper into the music, pointing out different musical features and enabling practice in finding them in a given piece. Then we explore how the music translates into expressive movement.

Rhythms and what to do with them (1hr)

            - Learn about the main Arabic rhythms used in dance, their production, where / when they appear, and how they will direct the dancer’s movements. Bringing a doumbek/tabla or sagat/zills/finger cymbals is helpful, but optional.

Connecting – moderated discussion and dance time (1hr)

            - With insight and direction, students will read, consider, discuss and learn from each other on significant ideas within the dance form itself, about our connectivity to one another and to our audience. We will then develop ways in which we can put these new insights into physical form through our dance.
